The Mt. Rainier National Park Service map says for our safety we must carry the 10 essentials: a topographic map, compass, extra food, extra clothing / rain gear, emergency shelter, fiirst aid kit, flashlight and extra batteries, sunglasses and sunscreen, pocketknife & matches (for emergency use only). I think we had about 3 of those!
After a 2-hour dive to Paradise (in the Mt. Rainier National Park - elevation: 5400ft), we walked the Skyline Loop, via the High Skyline Trail. A long way up - poor Johnny's legs! It's a 5.5 mile round trip (which takes about 3 hours) and you gain about 1700 feet (that's in altitude!) - unfortunately it was a bit foggy and the view was not as good as when Terry went there last month (so I am told!), but I did make friends with a chipmunk! While we couldn't see Mt. Rainier up there, we did see it when we were driving home!
Still, it was a great walk - if you like climbing up them there hills!
